This initiative is facilitated by Jane Bailey (pictured) of Fiber Optic Training Consultants, and in partnership with VistaCare Communications.

    Jane has over two decades of field experience in fiber optic splicing, overlapping with more than 12 years as a certified instructor. Throughout her career, she has worked directly in infrastructure builds while simultaneously developing and delivering formal training programs. She continues to operate within the industry while developing the next generation of splicers and supporting quality control standards.

A free 3-day pilot program for women in Nova Scotia

    Women Who Splice is a free 3-day pilot program for women in Nova Scotia, Canada who are interested in learning more about fiber optic splicing and telecommunications careers. No prior experience is necessary. This program will provide realistic exposure to the technical and professional expectations for a career in fiber optic splicing, and provide the opportunity to learn new skills in a supportive environment. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the trade and whether it aligns with their skills and interests.

  • Introduction to fiber optic infrastructure and network fundamentals
  • Hands-on cable preparation and fiber handling
  • Fusion splicing demonstrations and supervised practice
  • Insights into field environments and job site expectations
  • Discussion of career pathways within telecom infrastructure
